Bragging

My daughter is eighteen, about to graduate from high school, and I am so impressed with her talent that I had to brag a little bit.  Look at this piece she created, just finishing it late last night:
It is a wonderful tribute piece of my mom, her grandma.  I posted pictures in my last post, right after Mom died last month.  My daughter used one of the photos for reference and drew this portrait of Mom in charcoal on vellum  She cut around the image and stitched it over a collage: a swath of Mom's handwriting, a photocopy of of her as a little girl, some old doilies, all on a crumpled paper bag.  I think it is just beautiful.  I'm such a proud mom, and also touched that she honored her grandmother so sweetly.  My daughter is preparing a series of 13 portraits, for a portfolio she hopes will earn her an AP Studio Art credit for next year.  She'll be a freshman in the school of design at KU, in Lawrence, KS in the fall----so FAR away from us in Portland.  I'm going to miss her like crazy.

So glad we'll be able to Skype!!

  10. Your daughter does wonderful work.

My daughter headed off to UC Santa Barbara to major in studio art and she never took an art class while she was there. She switched to Poli Sci.

She is creative and talented, but doesn't use it much because she is too busy socializing. I know that one day she will get back to her creativity.

Are you in Portland, Oregon or Maine?

  16. Maggie, I am so sorry that I didn't know what you have been going through sooner! My heart goes out to you with the passing of your mother. I know it must be so hard to lose both your parents in such a short amount of time. And more changes to come with your daughter going away to college next fall. You will do great even though you will miss her like crazy. And how wonderful that she has your artistic talent. It will be so fun to see how this develops! Big hug to you, Maggie!!! xoxo
